It has been a great honor to serve our community in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Thank you for placing your trust in me.
My first Legislative Session as Eagan's state representative ended on time with significant progress for our community and state. Voters in the district asked us to balance the budget honestly. You called for investments in education and jobs. I also heard that you wanted to see us work together across party lines for the good of Minnesota. This time, your voice was heard.
We entered the session facing a $627 million deficit - our eighth in the last ten years - that was a direct result of fiscal mismanagement and a reliance on shifts and gimmicks. I listened to our community and helped pass a balanced budget that invests in Minnesota priorities like education and economic development.
The 2013 State Budget:
From the beginning I said I wanted to be your voice at the Capitol and I heard from you on a number of issues. Constituents from both sides of the aisle expressed concerns about some provisions of the Omnibus Tax Bill. Hearing your concerns, I voted against the tax bill. I also argued for more government efficiencies and common ground on the final bill.
As 2013 comes to a close, we are getting closer to the 2014 Legislative Session. We accomplished a lot in the last session, but there's more work to do for middle-class Minnesotans. The 2014 Legislative Session gives us a chance to review regulations and laws that no longer make sense, and pursue reforms to make state government work more efficiently and better serve the people of Minnesota.
As your state representative, I want to hear from you. Please feel free to contact me with your ideas, feedback, or suggestions.
Again, thank you for the honor of serving you in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
